Acupuncture for Fertility

Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been used to promote fertility for thousands of years. Together they can regulate menstrual cycles, normalize hormonal systems, and increase blood flow to the uterus.  As a convenient side effect, acupuncture also reduces stress and anxiety that can otherwise decrease fertility. Chinese Medicine approaches each patient as an individual case and can treat your unique presentation.

Western medicine is excellent for treating critical, life-threatening conditions, however it falls short when addressing conditions that affect our quality of life and ultimate health. Not all couples experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant are ideal candidates for invasive methods of modern medicine. If their dysfunction is more subtle in nature, then a gentle natural method of treatment is more appropriate and better suited.

Acupuncture with IUI and IVF

For those couples that are good candidates for IUI and IVF, Chinese Medicine acts as an extremely useful addition to modern Western medical interventions. A 2002 landmark study published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility found that the pregnancy rate increased 16.2% in women that received acupuncture in conjunction is assisted reproduction therapy.

Acupuncture has been shown to greatly increase the success of in-vitro fertilization. It can improve the quality of your follicle, increase the success of implantation, and improves the likelihood of carrying a baby to term. A 2015 study in Reproductive Biomedicine Online showed that women undergoing IVF with donor eggs who utilized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) had a 23% increased chance of having a live birth delivery over those women who did not use TCM. It is important for women to begin receiving treatment several months before starting IUI of IVF, in order to properly prepare her body for implantation.  Herbal Therapy is also a key component in treating fertility through Traditional Chinese Medicine and an important component in treatment. Is Acupuncture Right For You?

For more than 4000 years, acupuncture has proven effective in treating the symptoms and addressing the root cause for many problems.

From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture works by stimulating parts of the brain to release natural biomolecules such as neurotransmitters, vasodilators and hormones. Scientific research shows that these biomolecules trigger the immune system and pain regulating mechanisms resulting in a broad spectrum of systemic effects. Studies done through Neuroimaging, Thermal Imaging, and Ultrasound prove the effects of acupuncture are beneficial.
